What is the full form of ROM ?

ROM - Read Only Memory

ROM is a class of storage medium used in computers on which data has been prerecorded. Unlike main memory (RAM), ROM retains its contents even when the computer is turned off, that's why we call it nonvolatile memory. ROM are much slower than RAM memories.

Built and Use - A regular ROM is constructed from hard-wired logic, encoded in the silicon itself. Most personal computers contain a small amount of ROM that stores the program known as BIOS that boots the computer.

Types of ROM :-

  • Read Only Memory (ROM)
  • Programmable Read Only Memory (PROM)
  • Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EPROM)
  • Electrically Erasable Read Only Memory (EEPROM)
