GPRS - General Packet Radio Service


General packet radio service, standardized by European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), is a packet oriented mobile data service on the 2G and 3G cellular communication systems. GPRS provides moderate-speed data transfer, by using unused time division multiple access (TDMA) channels.

Speed & Uses - It has a speed limit of 115 kbps which is used in mobile internet, MMS and other data communications such as e-mail and Web browsing. GPRS is based on the most popular mobile communication technique : Global System for Mobile (GSM). Informally, it is also known as 2.5G.
