It is headquartered in New York City, New York, United states. The organization is composed of engineers, scientists, and students. It was formed in 1963 by the merger of the two Institutes namely Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE), founded in 1912 and the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE), founded in 1884.
