University Grants Commission is an organization which looks after the rules, regulation and standards of India Universities. The University that follows all the policies of UGC, gets its approval and is considered UGC approved University.

The Organization is headquartered in New Delhi, with its regional centers in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Bhopal, Guwahati and Kolkata.

University Grants Commission is responsible for conducting National Eligibility Test, which is entrance exam to determine eligibility for lectureship in government colleges and universities in India. A person expecting a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) has also need to clear the exam of NET. University Grants Commission also provides funds for government-recognized universities and colleges.
