VLC media player is an open source cross-platform media player that supports a wide variety of file formats. It was first released in 2001 by the VideoLAN project. The player is able to stream over computer network and to transcode multimedia files. It supports wide variety of operating systems including: Windows, iOS, Linux, Android, Solaris, etc.

VLC supports wide range of file formats including: Audio formats (mp3, AAC, AC3, RealAudio, WMV), Video Format (AVI, FLV, QuickTime File Format, MP4, WAV, MPEG, WMV) and Subtitles (DVD-Video, SVCD, DVB, MPEG-4 Timed Text, Text file, etc.)
