What is the Full Form of FDDI ?

FDDI - Fiber Distributed Data Interface

Fiber Distributed Data Interface is an ANSI standard that supports data transfer of 100 Mbps. FDDI uses fiber optic cable in a local area network (LAN) which can be extended upto 200kms. Due to its large covering area FDDI is frequently used on the backbone for a wide area network (WAN).

Fiber Distributed Data Interface uses the concept of token ring which comprises of two physical paths for data transfer. The first ring carries the data and the second is redundant that remains idle during normal operation.

Where to use FDDI

• It is mainly used in high traffic networks where large amounts of data flow is required.
• It provides high bandwidth capability and greater distances than copper.
