LAN - Local Area Network

A local area network is a group of two or more computers connected in a small geographical location. Ethernet is the most common type of LAN, but the newer Apple's AppleTalk network system is also used for Macintosh computers.

In a local area network, the resources are shared by all the systems present in the network. These resources include : Hard Disk storage, Server, Printer, Switch and many more applications. The data speed of a LAN can vary from 10 to 1000 Mbit/s and more.
