Windows XP was the first commercial operating system produced by Microsoft in August 2001. It was developed to be installed on Personal computers, including Desktops, Notebooks and media centers. It was one of the reliable version of Windows for personal computing at that time.

It was the successor of Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows 2000, was the first consumer-oriented operating system built on the Windows NT kernel. It was succeeded by Windows Vista (2007) and Windows 7 (2009).
