What is the Full Form of VSAT ?

VSAT - Very Small Aperture Terminal

Very Small Aperture Terminal is a device, used to transmit & receive data signal through a satellite. The satellite sends and receives signals from an earth station computer that acts as a hub for the system.

Most VSAT networks are configured in one of these topologies :-

  • Star topology, using a central uplink site
  • Mesh topology, where instead of centralized uplink site a VSAT terminal is used
  • Combination of both star and mesh topologies.

Its use is growing throughout the world both by home users and by private companies as a way of establishing private satellite communications networks. For private applications, companies can have total control of their own communication system. VSAT is able to reliably transfer data, video, and voice via satellite.

There are numerous Applications of  VSAT, including :-

  • Environmental Monitoring
  • Remote Video Monitoring
  • Distance Learning
  • Disaster recovery
  • Seismic Monitoring
