Watt-hours, expressed Wh or W·h, are used to measure energy in an electrical circuit. 1 watt-hour is equal to one watt of energy consumed for one hour of time.

Milliamp-hours, shortened as mAh or mA·h, are a measure of electrical charge. They’re often used to measure the charge of a battery, for example. A one mAh charge can supply one milliamp of current for one hour.

To convert from energy to electrical charge, the formula below can be used, in conjunction with the voltage.

The electric charge Q_(mAh) in milliamp-hours (mAh) is equal to 1000 times the energy E_(Wh) in watt-hours (Wh) divided by the voltage V_(V) in volts (V):

Q_(mAh) = 1000 × E_(Wh) / V_(V)

So milliamp-hours is equal to 1000 times watt-hours divided by volts:

milliamp-hours = 1000 × watt-hours / volts
